The Practice of Sin…

Read: Numbers 31-32
Marked: Numbers 31:8, They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of those who were killed–Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. Balaam the son of Beor they also killed with the sword.

These kings and peoples were the ones who had tried to have Balaam curse God’s people. At his counsel they had caused Israel to commit sexual immorality. Balaam was killed because of his counsel.

Sin, and its ways, are a powerful influence on the people of God and His word repeatedly warns against giving in to it and to crucify our sinful tendencies.

Balaam, as the mastermind of the seduction of Israel, died the death of a sinner showing it’s not actions alone but also the thoughts and intentions that should be judged and killed as well.

I’m reminded of Romans 1:32 which says, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

And Romans 8:13 says, For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Changes…

Dear reader, my family and I just moved 350 kilometers from the place we’ve called home for the past 26 years to a small community in the middle of British Columbia.

This has been a long process of packing, loading, moving, and organizing our new house has been the reason for the lack of posts for which I apologize.

I will be resuming posting from this day forth. Blessings.

Sin Hinders…

Read: Numbers 28-30
Marked: Numbers 28:30,…also one kid of the goats, to make atonement for you.

Chapters 28-29 describe feast days and the offerings. A number of times a goat was to be offered to make atonement for sin.

The feasts were times of great joy, but also reminded the people their joy came at a cost. It also reminded them that sin can hinder celebration and fellowship with God if we aren’t careful.

These chapters and verses remind me that sin must be atoned for and if Christ hadn’t died I wouldn’t be celebrating before God.

I am encouraged to confess my sin and put off sinful ways.

Equal but Different…

Read: Numbers 26-27
Marked: Numbers 27:8, And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.

God is a God of justice and fairness. The equality of women is shown here. Men and women may perform different roles in His kingdom, and in church, but they have the same inheritance rights as men.
