Read: 1 Kings 18-20
Marked: 1 Kings 19:20, And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
God had chosen Elisha to succeed Elijah, but he was not ready to follow. But, when it looked like Elisha was going to be left behind, he changed his mind. The Lord Jesus called some to follow, but they had excuses too (Luke 9:59-62).
In Luke 9:23 the Lord calls to us, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
Many want to know Jesus, but few are willing to follow Him. Am I ready, able, and willing to follow the Lord? What excuse do I have for not following?
