Marked: Job 14:4, Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!
This is an intriguing question and one which many might struggle with. I think deep down inside we know we are not as good as we think we are. In fact I believe we know we are stained and unclean.
So, how does one get cleansed from an unclean state? We can’t do anything to make up for the wicked things we’ve done, those things of which we are the least proud of, to get right with God.
We might try to do good things, live a good life, give to charitable works. These are all good but don’t erase the stain of sin on our own lives.
The good news (gospel) is that what we can’t do, God can and does. He doesn’t expect us to become righteous before He will accept us. We can’t.
God accepts us as we are, where we are, warts and all, and does the cleansing work Himself through Jesus Christ.
If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 3:9).
