Read: 1 Chronicles 21-23
Marked: 1 Chronicles 21:8, So David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, I pray, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”
We must never take sin lightly. While it might be me who sins greatly, the effects of sin fall not only on me, but on those around me.
In the case of David, the Lord struck Israel (V7), and seventy thousand men of Israel fell (V14); a terrible price for sin. How terrible must the price be for us to understand how awful sin is?
David took full responsibility for his sin and repented in sackcloth (V16-17). True repentance and a contrite heart stays the punishing hand of God (V15). Lord, may we be quick to recognize our sin and quicker still to repent.
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit (1 Peter 3:18).
