Read: 1 Corinthians 1-4
Marked: 1 Corinthians 2:2, For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
There are those that seek to know God by applying the wisdom of men to explain the Word of God. But, in doing so, they take the very thing they seek to explain and strip its Author of the word He has spoken and change it from Revelation to something else, something hidden, obscure, or confused.
These deny the literal intent of Scripture and relegate some of it to myth and explain away the very real people, places, and events that existed and occurred whom God used to reveal Himself to the world.
This is what Paul warns against in Colossians 2:8. They are cheated of the power of God’s Word through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the traditions of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
