Read: Mark 10-11
Marked: Mark 10:22, But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
The rich man sought out Jesus and asked what he could do to inherit eternal life (V17). Many people believe they must do something to gain eternity, but few are willing to do what they think must be done or at least are inconsistent in the doing.
Jesus told him, “Keep the law” (V19). The man claimed to have kept all these things. All people like to proclaim their own goodness, so Jesus added something which addressed the heart of the matter.
Jesus said, “Give all you have to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven.” People want heaven but aren’t willing to give up what they love to gain it. And so, the man went away sorrowful.
Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and is the only way to gain heaven. Yet, many aren’t willing to lay aside their own ways to take up His way showing that heaven is not as important to them as they think.
