Seed or Tares…

Read: Matthew 13-14
Marked: Matthew 13:37-39, He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked [one.] The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.”

Jesus only sows good seed. Am I well tilled soil ready to accept the good seed? The enemy sows bad seed which produces only weeds. Have I learned to tell light from darkness, good from evil, and right from wrong?

If Jesus only sows good seed then He must be the source of all righteousness and I can learn from Him to discern the good from the bad.

The Price of Following Jesus…

Read: Matthew 10-12
Marked: Matthew 10:38, And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

There is a cost, a high cost, to following Jesus. In this chapter, He warns His disciples about what following Him means as He sends them out “as sheep in the midst of wolves” (V16).

To truly follow Jesus means death to self. This is why many Christians struggle; we haven’t yet learned to die. A man carrying a cross was going to certain death and our attitude in life in service to God should be like that.

Die we must if we want to follow Jesus. Dead to our wants and desires, but alive to Christ.
