Read: Matthew 23-24
Marked: Matthew 23:13, But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in [yourselves,] nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
In what ways can we shut up the kingdom of heaven for others? By making the things of Jesus more about our denominations or our particular take on Scripture of higher importance than the Gospel, or not walking with the Lord in simple obedience.
When our emphasis is on other things, worldly things, than on God’s Kingdom, we fail to enter ourselves and prevent others from entering.
The scribes and Pharisees made it more about their view of Scripture teaching the traditions of men rather than the Word of God. In doing this they laid heavy burdens on people and neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith.
