Read: Genesis 19-21
Marked: Genesis 19:31-32, Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father [is] old, and [there is] no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.”
The daughters of Lot see their desperate situation and take it upon themselves to improve it. But doing the wrong thing for the right reasons is still wrong.
There was no sexual purpose for them sleeping with their father. This was not for sexual gratification. But the consequences of their actions were severe.
Both daughters got pregnant by their father. One had a child who became the founder of the Moabites. The other had a child who became the founder of the Ammonites. Both nations became enemies of Israel and shows that our actions, good or bad, even doing bad for good reasons can have grave consequences.
Lot’s life, and the life of his family was ruined because he only had eyes for the best the land had to offer (Genesis 13:10). But the best this world has to offer isn’t always what’s best for us. Trust in God and doing His will is far better than taking matters into our own hands.
