Do Not Pleasure in the Fall of an Enemy…

Read: 2 Samuel 1-4
Marked: 2 Samuel 1:17, Then David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son,

David took no pleasure at the death of Saul, even though Saul had tried to kill him on numerous occasions. Neither should I take pleasure in the fall of another no matter how much they were against me.

I am reminded by this that Jesus calls me to be a peacemaker, not a peace-breaker. He instructs me to love my enemies, bless those who curse me, do good to those who hate me, and pray for those who spitefully use me and persecute me (Matthew 5:44).

The words of David’s lament reveal his heart before God in the matter.
