The Gold Calves of Ignorance…

Read: 1 Kings 12-14
Marked: 1 Kings 12:28, Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!”

I get into trouble when I decide to do my own thing instead of obeying the Word of the Lord. Psalms 1:1-2 says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”

I can look on the Word of God not as commandments to be obeyed, but as “suggestions” or “recommendations “ to be considered. This is how some view God’s Word,

“Suggestions” and “Recommendations” become two golden calves when I give into such thinking. They don’t bring me closer to God, but keep me away.
