Read: 2 Chronicles 28; 2 Kings 16-17
Marked: 2 Kings 17:15, And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them; they followed idols, became idolaters, and [went] after the nations who [were] all around them, [concerning] whom the LORD had charged them that they should not do like them.
As nations and people turn away from God and His Word, godlessness, immorality, and wickedness increase.
The northern kingdom of Israel is an example to the world today. They followed idols. Man’s greatest idol is the idol of self. They became war mongers and adopted the practices of the nations around them. They even practiced human sacrifice (V17), practicing things which God had forbidden, and spiralled further into wickedness.
Our society, in spite of what people might believe, isn’t getting better; it’s becoming more immoral and perverse. Things that were once shameful are openly practiced and even advocated by our educators and enshrined into law by our politicians.
God’s ways and laws are rejected and mocked. What will be the inevitable result? Time will tell. But verses 18-24 are very revealing.
