Mercy and Compassion…

Read: Lamentations 3-5
Marked: Lamentations 3:22-23, Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great [is] Your faithfulness.

I sometimes wonder how people manage to get through difficult times without knowing the Lord. This has been a crazy couple of years and the world is still struggling with the pandemic, a war in Ukraine, and hard economic times. No matter which side you take the matter is divisive. How do we deal with this?

The last summer the province I live in has seen unprecedented forest fires and flooding due to unseasonably warm weather. Several rural communities were destroyed and people lost everything. My own community was evacuated and we experienced the real possibility we’d lose the house we moved in the year before. The fire came to the edge of our home and the homes of our neighbours.

For a time we thought we’d be another Lytton or Monte Lake, communities that were destroyed or suffered significant loss due to the fires. Yet, through it all, the rush to save some precious items, mostly sentimental, the hurried loading of vehicles, the final evacuation, and the anxiety filled but orderly convoy out of town, we had peace.

How many other times have we been faced with dire situations only to see them come to nothing? The mercy of God? His compassion on us without us realizing it?

Do you know this merciful and compassionate God? Have you experienced His peace which exceeds anything we can understand?
