Read: Ezra 1-3
Marked: Ezra 1:1, Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also [put it] in writing, saying,
In Isaiah 42:9 God says that He declares things before they occur. The decree that Cyrus made concerning the rebuilding of the temple was first shown to Isaiah one hundred and fifty years before Cyrus was even born.
In Isaiah 44:28-45; 5, Cyrus is named and details the command given to him by God to enable the rebuilding of the temple. Remarkable. This is but one example of exact prophecy and fulfillment in Scripture.
It is estimated that twenty-eight percent of the Bible is prophecy. Concerning Jesus, there are over three hundred specific prophecies. Peter Stoner in, Science Speaks, calculated the odds of only a few of these being fulfilled in any one person in all of history at 1 in 10 to the 17th power. That is a staggering number, yet Jesus fulfilled them completely.
The Bible is a remarkable book because it is the Word of God and mentions people, places, and events long before they existed or occurred. Prophecy alone should be enough to convince anyone that the Bible should be read and studied. It is the key to life.
