Misaligned…

Read: Nehemiah 6-7
Marked: Nehemiah 6:17-19, Also in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and [the letters of] Tobiah came to them. For many in Judah were pledged to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shechaniah the son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah. Also they reported his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. Tobiah sent letters to frighten me.

There will be among my peers those who will try to get me to compromise what God commands. This was the case with the nobles of Judah. They had family and business relationships with Tobiah who had tried to stop the work of God.

The nobles said Tobiah wasn’t bad, but also reported to him what Nehemiah said and was doing. Jesus had those who tried to advance their own self interests. Judas was one who made a deal with the devil to betray Jesus. We see Peter warming himself at the fire along with those who had arrested Jesus (Mark 14:67).

John writes we are not to love the world or the things in the world (1 John 2:15-16). Anything that takes our eyes off of the Lord can lead us astray. Judas hung himself and Peter denied the Lord three times. Be careful who you are aligned with.
