Unbelief Makes the Possible Impossible…

Read: Matthew 17; Mark 9
Marked: Mark 9:23-24, Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things [are] possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

Unbelief keeps us from experiencing the full power of Jesus in our lives. And it doesn’t take much unbelief to keep us from receiving the promise of new life in Christ.

Jesus says, “If you can believe, all things are possible.” I love how the father of the child immediately grasps the significance of Jesus’ words.

His child has suffered since childhood. He probably thought nothing could be done to help his son. He recognized that his unbelief would keep him from seeing his son healed so he cried out, “I believe”, which was true. Why else had he come to Jesus? But he also recognized that doubt could hinder a miracle, so he went further and in faith asked, “Help my unbelief.”

Unbelief shouldn’t keep us from coming to Jesus. He is able, more than able, to do what we need even when we’re not sure. Lord, help my unbelief.
