Born Free…

Read: Galatians 4-6
Marked: Galatians 4:30, Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.”

Apart from Jesus we are bondservants (slaves) to sin and therefore under the law. Today, it is taught, even in some churches, that all will enter heaven regardless. But is that true?

A careful reading and understanding of Galatians would seem to contradict this. Paul uses an example of the two children of Abraham (V23), one born of the flesh, symbolic of bondage. The other born of the promise, symbolic of being born free.

The one born of the flesh is at enmity with the one born of the promise (V29). He doesn’t like the exclusivity freedom brings and demands to be included. But the promise is not given to those in bondage to the flesh, but to those who are free.

Therefore, those in bondage will not be heirs with those who are born free and shall be cast out from the presence of Him who sets us free.

In Christ we become a new creation. We are born again into the freedom the Spirit of God brings. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36).
