The Choices We Make…

Read: Genesis 12-15
Marked: Genesis 13:10, And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it [was] well watered everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

The story of Lot is a tragic one. I wonder, if Lot had known what would befall him and his family, and how it would all end, would he have chosen the plain of the Jordan?

The Bible warns us in 1 John 2:15-16 not to love the things of the world because the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world.

Lot had a choice, but all he could see was how great the plain of the Jordan looked; it was well watered everywhere, like the garden of the Lord. What we see might look appealing, but do we give any thought if this is best for us? Will we find the Lord there? What about the people, places, and events that live and go on there?

Lot found out too late that there was wickedness abounding in the land he had chosen. He lost everything he had; his home, his possessions, his wife, and wound up living in a cave far from others. As bad as this was, he suffered even more at the hands of his own daughters. His choices led to suffering and probably regret.
