Returning to Where it Started…

Read: Genesis 35-37
Marked: Genesis 35:10, And God said to him, “Your name [is] Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.

God reminds Jacob that He had changed his name from Jacob to Israel, meaning, God Prevails (Genesis 32:28). This was after Jacob decided to go back to where he first encountered God at Bethel.

It is good to return to where we first encountered God, what it meant, and how we felt. Sometimes, it’s important to return to our roots to be reminded what God did for us in changing us from something old to something new.

Life can get to us and we forget that we are no longer what we used to be. God reminds us of that. It’s good to return to our first love when we wander for a time (Revelation 2:4).
