Going through the Desert…

Read: Genesis 43-45
Marked: Genesis 44:31, “it will happen, when he sees that the lad [is] not [with us,] that he will die. So your servants will bring down the gray hair of your servant our father with sorrow to the grave.

They had sold Joseph as a slave and had caused their father to believe his son was dead all these years. Now it seems as if Jacob will be bereft of his youngest too and Judah gives a passionate plea. They had seen the grief of Jacob.

We sometimes can’t identify with the trauma and sorrow others experience until we go through the desert of grief with them.

God had used this experience to change the hearts of Judah and his brothers to the point they were willing to give themselves, even to death, to save Benjamin. When God calls us to love others, even an enemy, He calls us to walk with them even if it means going a second mile (Matthew 5:42).
