Read: Genesis 48-50
Marked: Genesis 48:21-22, Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am dying, but God will be with you and bring you back to the land of your fathers. Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.”
Death is inevitable. We will all experience it. For most of us, this life will be all we get. But for the believer in Christ there is another portion.
Abraham died, but there was Isaac. Isaac died, but there was Jacob. Now Jacob dies, but there is Ephraim and Manasseh. The succession of God’s promise continued. In Christ we are born again, two births in one life, an extra portion if you will. Whatever we receive in this life, good or bad, is not the end.
In 1 Corinthians 2:9 we read, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of men the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, our life will one day end, but will continue on through our children. As believers in Christ our life is bound in Him. When our time comes to pass from this world our life will continue because of Him. He has given us an extra portion. Life eternal. Life in Christ.
