Handsome Doesn’t Mean Competent…

Read: 1 Samuel 9-12
Marked: 1 Samuel 9:2, And he had a choice and handsome son whose name [was] Saul. [There was] not a more handsome person than he among the children of Israel. From his shoulders upward [he was] taller than any of the people.

What attracts us to people, especially those we admire or look to for leadership? Success, talent, good looks, or beauty perhaps? Saul was a choice and handsome man. God chose the man that people desired, but not necessarily needed.

We all need Jesus. But how many are attracted to Him? Isaiah says about Jesus, “He has no form or comeliness. There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men. He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.” (Isaiah 53:2-3). Not exactly a Hollywood star or supermodel. What are we looking for in a leader?
