Read: 1 Samuel 28-31
Marked: 1 Samuel 28:8, So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a seance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.”
Saul was in a battle. The Philistines had gathered for war (V1). When Saul inquired of the Lord (V6) he received no answer.
Saul turned to a medium. He had disguised himself so that she wouldn’t know who he was (V8) and asked her to conduct a seance and bring up Samuel (V11).
Where do I seek answers? Do I pray, read scripture, consult other Bible believing friends? Or do I disguise myself and give myself over to other things? Some who call themselves Christians, rather than wait on the Lord, turn to ungodly means and methods.
It might be an unbelieving friend or acquaintance. Or it might be the daily horoscope in the paper. Or a palm reader, tarot card practitioner, or even a medium.
God might not be answering us because we’ve given ourselves over to ungodliness, not obeying Him and doing our own thing. Perhaps we aren’t asking rightly (James 4:3). Or we aren’t patient in waiting on the Lord. We rush ahead without consideration.
We must be careful who and what we seek or we might find ourselves led where we shouldn’t go.
