Read: Nehemiah 10-11
Marked: Nehemiah 10:1, Now those who placed [their] seal on [the document were:] Nehemiah the governor, the son of Hacaliah, and Zedekiah,
We often ignore the lists of people we see in scripture. But this list shows those who signed and agreed to the covenant they made with the Lord.
We have also “signed on” to a new covenant the Lord Jesus made through His death on the cross and our names are written in the Lambs Book of Life (Philippians 4:3).
It wasn’t only the leaders who signed the covenant, it was the rest of the people too (V28). These, along with the leaders, agreed to separate themselves to the Law of God, to walk in God’s Law, and observe and do all the commandments, His ordinances and His statutes (V28-29).
In fulfilling the covenant made with God they supported the service of the house of God (V32) and did their part to ensure the ministry in the house of God continued without interruption (V31-39).
Are we doing likewise as members of the covenant of Christ? Are we giving to the work of the church in tithes, talents, and time? Or are we “members” in name only and not in deed?
