How Can We be Righteous?…

Read: Job 8-10
Marked: Job 9:1-2, Then Job answered and said: “Truly I know [it is] so, But how can a man be righteous before God?

Condemned by his friends as unrighteous (otherwise why would God do this to Job), Job knows that it is not his works that make him righteous before God.

Try as we might our righteous acts will never compensate for our unrighteous deeds. Isaiah 64:6 says, “But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.”

Titus 3:5 suggests that God’s love, or even perceived lack of love, toward us has nothing to do with how good or bad we think we are. Good or bad, we each have need of the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.
