Read: Job 17-20
Marked: Job 18:14, He is uprooted from the shelter of his tent, And they parade him before the king of terrors.
For many death is the dreadful unknown. Here Bildad calls death, the King of Terrors. No matter how we might try to stave off death it is a certainty for all the living.
But death should hold no dread for the believer in Christ. The promise of God is eternal life for those who trust in Jesus (1 John 5:11-12). Jesus Himself has promised that through faith in Him we pass from death to life and there is no spectre of judgment (John 5:24)
The believer knows, as Christ rose from the grave, so too will those who believe in Him. Paul said without the resurrection no one has any hope, least of all Christians (1 Corinthians 15:17:19).
He goes on to say that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption (1 Corinthians 15:50). This speaks of those who die in their sins without the forgiveness which only Jesus can bring.
But through the promise we have in Jesus the corrupt are made incorruptible, the mortal becomes immortal and death is swallowed up in victory. “O death, where is your sting? O Hades (the grave), where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:53-55)
