Walking Through the Bible: John 1

The apostle John is regarded as the author of this gospel which bears his name. John’s purpose in writing is to declare the deity of Jesus and begins right out of the gate in verse 1. In John 20:31 John reiterated his reason for writing this gospel, “That you may believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

All his life John never wavered in his belief that Jesus was the Christ, the Anointed one. He writes in 1 John 5:13 that he wrote these things to those who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Our faith begins and ends with the Lordship of Jesus. John was an eyewitness to Jesus Christ. He wrote in 1 John 1:1-4, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life–the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.”
