Read: Exodus 39-40
Marked: Exodus 40:32, Whenever they went into the tabernacle of meeting, and when they came near the altar, they washed, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
I am conscious of the fact that when I come before the Lord that I am coming before the Holy of Holies. So how do I come? Do I come with little thought of my sin?
In Christ I am forgiven past, present, even future sins. Yet, the dirt of this world clings to me. I am not invulnerable to unclean words, thoughts, and deeds that stain my spirit.
The priests were as human as I, yet they took the time to be cleansed before approaching the altar or meeting with God.
1 John 1:9 speaks of being cleansed through confession and being assured of cleansing when we do. And in 2 Corinthians 7:1 we read, “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
The Lords Prayer reminds us that while we come as children to our Father, nevertheless we come before a Holy God. Let us come before our faithful and just Father in holiness, cleansed from those sins we may have done by commission or omission.
