Profane Fire…

Read: Leviticus 8-10
Marked: Leviticus 10:1-2, Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

In spite of the preparation, in spite of sacrifice, in spite of the holy clothing, the laying on of hands, the killing of the sin offerings, and the sprinkling of the blood of the sacrifice, the priests Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron died before God.

They took the things of God, the censer, the incense, and lit unauthorized fire, a fire of their own making, not the fire from the altar of sacrifice, and offered it before God.

God’s Word is truth and we can’t change the truth to suit ourselves. God must be worshipped and approached as He alone determines. We take take some of the things of God and add our own ideas and purposes to His and approach Him.

What we see in the sacrificial system points us to Jesus who came and died as determined by God and we mustn’t add to it or change it. To come to God in our own way is profane. Our works for Jesus will be judged by fire (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).
